Where Have I Been? Announcement 02-20-2015

If you've been following along, I haven't updated this blog since September. I hope to end that dry spell now.  I have a new announcement.

I am leaving my medical coding and billing career.

It was a hard decision to make. I spent two years preparing for that career. It became a problem when I realized that if I were to continue and get a job in that field, my writing would suffer. It has been suffering long enough. For months I was depressed about it and wondered if I should stay in that path.   As I tried to prepare for a certification exam, the career was suffocating my writing and creativity outlets and I was losing sight of who I am and what I truly wanted.  I know now that medical coding and billing is not the right career for me.

Writing is.  I am good at typing/word-processing, and I love the computer. I love being expressive and creative.  My writing may not be at its best now, but I am willing to learn more and improve my writing skills so as to write for professional purposes. I can exercise my curiosity more often now and not feel like they are distractions.  I should still have a day job, but in the long run I would like to write for a living.

So on that note, I am going to attempt to keep Cyborg Haven going.  I am sorry for those who thought I gave up on it.  I simply was letting life take control of me, when I needed to take control of my life.  It's time to move on and be happy.  Look forward to the future instead of dread it.

Happy belated new year, and welcome to more possibilities!

Regarding plans for Sonic Fan-girl Chronicles, + My Love for Video Games

It is just as I feared.  I have become ambitious in trying to finish My Sonic Fan-girl Chronicles and just didn’t get back to putting up new chapters for quite some time.

As I may have said before, pursuing this My Sonic Fan-girl Chronicles project was a way for me to heal after I watched that video about the Sonic.exe computer game.  I wanted to rebuild my appreciation of Sonic—not that I didn’t have it already but, just to strengthen it I guess.  I had chapters of different points in my life where I first played a new Sonic game, and I looked forward to updating Cyborg Haven with these posts.  But lately this project didn’t seem so important to me.  I hate to say that.  And what’s worse:

I haven’t played a console Sonic game in months. Not even Sonic Rivals 2 on the PSP.

This year, new priorities came up that are related to my new career, and for that my Sonic writing project suffered. I still want to continue writing it.  I really want to write about how I got interested in Shadow the Hedgehog and what I thought was so cool about him back then, in 2001.  Shadow still deserves a special post about him from me because though I love all three hedgehogs to pieces—Sonic, Shadow and Silver—Shadow is ultimately my favorite.  I at least want to do that before I stop writing more chapters.

Maybe it won’t necessarily be part of the project, but since I haven’t been playing any other video games lately, then from time to time I would be writing mostly about my memories playing Sonic games.   I still have games like Prince of Persia (2008) and Devil May Cry 4 that I can return to playing and write about when I do.  And I can’t forget NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, because  I love NiGHTS as well and still vow to someday get the NiGHTS into Dreams HD on Steam (I don’t have a Steam account; I plan to get one after being a little more financially established).

Perhaps along the way I can also share links to YouTube videos that contain content from video games I’ve enjoyed, or soundtrack songs from games I appreciate the music from.  Sonic Unleashed has plenty of that. I love the soundtrack to Sonic Adventure 2 as well, especially Shadow’s stages, Knuckles’ stages, and even the music for Rouge’s stages too.  OMG, I can’t forget Final Fantasy VII too!!  Maybe also I might share links to music tracks from video games I haven’t played but have heard some of the music and appreciate the musical score, like from Journey or Assassin’s Creed.  And of course, if there is news about any new video games coming up such as Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts 3, or a new Sonic game (or even the Sonic Boom cartoon, y'all!), I'll write my thoughts on those too.

No question I still appreciate video games. Even though I am not playing them as much as I used to before I changed my career, I want to share the joy video games give me with their gameplay, their stories, their music and their characters.

CYBORG HAVEN: 5 Years On The Internet!!!

Well guys,

I can't believe it's been 5 years since I started writing this blog.

I want to make a proper celebratory post on Cyborg Haven 2.0, but it will have to wait a bit longer.  For now, I at least have a new cyborg drawing to go with a much-needed revamp of this blog.  Either a revamp, or a bit of some changing up to refresh it's novelty.

Still wanna keep this baby alive.  :)

EDIT:  It seems I am  having trouble customizing this simple template.  Maybe it is something to do with my Internet browser?  It if comes to it, I may just have to change the entire template itself, and I don't wanna do that because I like how simple the layout is and where I can find everything.  Bummer, man!

Happy New Year! New Year, New Beginnings

Happy New Year, dear readers!!  It's a new year and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for reading Cyborg Haven and for those stopping by for the first time, thank you!

Of course, I've still got a lot of my Sonic the Hedgehog history to share, but I'll see if I can fit in some other video game topics as well in the coming months.

I am looking forward to the new year!  Aren't you?

Is Mega Man X?  We'll see...he's getting comic book exposure very soon!  More on this later!

Starting a Series of Posts about my History as a Sonic the Hedgehog Fangirl

I want to take this opportunity, this post, to announce that I will be starting a series of posts that will chronicle my history as a fan-girl of Sonic the Hedgehog.  It starts all the way in spring of 1991 and goes just about to the present, whenever that is going to be.  Most of the next couple of months it’s going to be this; I don’t know what else to be posting about in the meantime except for my progress in the games I do currently play.  There will be an occasional “regular” post.  But for now, the thing that dominates my mind the most for this blog is Sonic the Hedgehog—nearly a month after I watched a YouTube video of PewDiePie playing Sonic.exe that scared me breathless. (see separate page from the list on the top left:  My reaction to watching the PewDiePie video for Sonic.exe =O!!!! )

I am writing my history as a Sonic the Hedgehog fan-girl because I’ve wanted to do it for a while in Cyborg Haven. This desire is only pushed into urgency due to watching that horrid video.  I want to rekindle the nostalgia factor of all the old Sonic video games I’ve played and some I’ve known about.  It’s sort of a healing process now, psychologically.   It will be good for me.  I have a lot of memories playing the SEGA Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games.  The music, the laughing, the bosses I finally beat, the gameplay, the stages, so many things that made me love this little guy.  He was a big part of my gaming life.

There are going to be some 20-odd posts in this series.  I will include them all in the label for the series of posts, and for the series and the label “Reminisce”.   There will also be occasional “Bonus Chapter” posts, in which I may write about other video game-related topics in the SEGA universe, such as Galaxy Force II, and the first time I saw Espio the Chameleon, and yes I have to write about starting to be a NiGHTS fan too because I would say that was love at first sight as well.  All that purple.  I couldn’t miss it.  Hah, both Espio and NiGHTS are purple, is that why I liked (still like) them so much?
So, brace yourself?  Because there is going to be a whole lot of Sonic-related posts coming up very soon.

Four-Year Anniversary of Cyborg Haven: Blog of a Gamer Girl

Four years ago on September 3rd, I launched Cyborg Haven: Blog of a Gamer Girl.  I had wanted to start this blog earlier than 2009, but while I was attending CSUN, I didn’t have the time to commit to it, let alone know what I wanted to write about or how to design it.  It would be my very first blog, so I didn’t know the routine of creating a blog.

I first heard of a “blog”—web log—back in 2006, when one of my instructors in my previous college suggested Blogger to students as a method of writing journals for the reading we do for the class.  It was an interesting idea: an online journal for reading assignments.  I was new to doing that sort of thing, and I wasn’t comfortable with writing for the public quite yet—not the World Wide Web, at least.  I think I just used a folder with fasteners to hold lose paper together and used that as a notebook for my reading journal.

Then in 2008 I was re-introduced to Blogger in a Popular Culture course.  There was even a book all about blogging as a recommended text for the course.  It is called The Rough Guide to Blogging by Jonathan Yang.  It wasn’t required reading.  But I knew that eventually I wanted to write a blog of my own (because for the class we were going to have group blogs not individual ones).  I at least read what I needed for the blog me and my group would write and maintain, but after graduation in 2009, I returned to the blog book and read up on Blogger, tags, HTML, and design tips on things such as font, template and background.   I also had to think about what topic I wanted for my blog:  what topic or aspect about my life would I be able to have something to write about more often than most?  I didn’t want to write about my everyday life:  I wanted a topic I thought would be fun to update progress or reactions to.

I decided on Blogger as my host because I was introduced to it twice before and it was one of the simpler ones, plus I already had a Google account when I made my Gmail, so I just sign in with my Gmail.

I forgot how exactly I came to the decision, but I decided that videogames would be the topic of my blog.  Video games played by me, a girl.  But what should I title it?  Well, before I realized how much of a robot enthusiast I was, I came up with “Cyborg Haven”, which made me think of a human connected to a computer or a television set.  This online journal would be a place where one who is a causal gamer girl (who feels out of place with other girls who don’t play video games) can go to rant or reminisce or gush or fan-girl about topics related to videogames, such as favorite characters or new videogames I’m looking forward to trying out or owning.  I ultimately had to add the subtitle “Blog of a Gamer Girl” because I didn’t want to confuse other geeks about what kind of blog it is.  So the full title on the top of the blog became “Cyborg Haven: Blog of a Gamer Girl,” which may be longer than it should be, but I’m happy with it.

Keeping the blog was also a way to keep my typing skills.  In addition, I had a way of keeping a log of what video game I played and when, and what I did, and how I felt at the time.  I love how I can search for the video game subtopics by tags that I give them, such as Nostalgia and Reminisce, Progress, Mega Man X, or Sonic the Hedgehog.

Then the design questions came up.  I wanted to put a picture of my own creation, not someone else’s picture.  I spent about an hour a day for a few days on Microsoft Paint 2002 to draw a cyborg girl specifically for this blog.  NOTE:  For the 5-year anniversary of Cyborg Haven, I may place an entirely different drawing of a cyborg girl for the top of the page.  Maybe then my drawing skills will have improved.

The reason why the background color is a dark navy blue and the text light gray is because I figure that if anyone is reading this late at night, it should be easier on the eyes, rather than having dark text against a bright white background.  It could be dark green…or dark red…but the blue is a bit more calming than the other colors.  Even purple might not be bad if I give it the right hue.

As for how often I will be posting on Cyborg Haven: I realize that some of my posts have been few but big.  I think from this point on, I might try something and post more often but keep the posts down to two big paragraphs or three shorter paragraphs.  If I want to update what missions, stages or tasks I’ve accomplished in a video game, I can list them and talk briefly about one or two of them in detail.  Eventually when I start working, hopefully around mid-autumn, it may be harder to get a chance to play a good video game session.  I don’t want to stop writing for Cyborg Haven.  My interest in video games should survive even when my lifestyle gets busier.
Here’s to another year of blogging about my favorite childhood pastime: playing video games!  And yes, it’s not just a “childhood” pastime.  You’re never too old to try new things.

KINGDOM HEARTS 3 AND FINAL FANTASY XV FOR PLAYSTATION 4?!!!

When I first found out about this last week, I couldn’t tell whether I was laughing or crying.

These two Square Enix video games—Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy Versus XIII (which I found out is now titled Final Fantasy XV)—are going to be released for the SONY Playstation 4.  The friggin’ PLAYSTATION 4?!!!  WHUT THE AKSKJFHSGLDK@#*!

Okay…okay…I am calm.  I must admit, I was hoping that Final Fantasy Versus XIII would still be released for the PS3.  I mean, that is the friggin’ reason why I wanted the PS3 in the first place.  I only have three video games for the PS3: Sonic Generations, Devil May Cry 4, and …uh… used Prince of Persia (2008) that I just bought this past March.  That's all the PS3 games I personally have.  I can play Blu-Ray DVDs on it too (which allows me to watch my #1 favorite movie Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete) and Casshern Sins on Blu-Ray.  My parents also enjoy the Blu-Ray DVDs on occasion, and my dad has his PS3 games.  Maybe some day I’d like to try out DmC: Devil May Cry on the PS3.

So, I am glad that Kingdom Hearts is returning with a real sequel, not to mention that Sora is returning!!!  And I am also happy that the now-titled Final Fantasy XV is continuing development.  I just wish that I foresaw that it wouldn’t make it to what is a “current-gen” console right now, the PS3.

$400 for the PS4 is not so bad; in fact, it’s reasonable.  But the video games for this gaming system are going to be $100 a pop.  Sorta balances out the surprisingly reasonable release price for the console. What I mean to say is, buying the console would cost $500 anyway if you were to also buy a video game along with it.

Well, I am not going to worry about buying the PS4 or Kingdom Hearts 3 or Final Fantasy XV any time too soon.  They won’t be out in a while, and then when they are out, the games should be $20 less and then maybe I’d consider purchasing them.  In the meantime, I‘ve got some other video games I have to finish.  I’ll just name some right off my head:

  • Sonic Generations (PS3)
  • Sonic Unleashed (Wii)
  • Prince of Persia 2008 (PS3)
  • Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy (PSP)
  • Mega Man X8  (PS2)
  • Shadow the Hedgehog (don’t hate me  >X ) (PS2)
  • NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (Wii)

They will keep me busy in between my new workdays, I suppose.  Next-gen can definitely wait.

Excited about Lightning Returns: FFXIII + More

I don’t know if I am even going to bother playing parts 1 and 2 of the FFXIII series.  But I think I’ll really like this new one coming up.  Why?  Because I only have to worry about controlling one character, Lightning.  I am sort of DONE with Japanese role playing games now.  I like to be able to have my character attack when they want to rather than when it’s their turn.  My patience is gone.  I want to do everything in a day but I can’t.  So something’s gotta give.

I saw the extended trailer for this video game on TheLifestream.net, and then I read up on what it is about in Final FantasyUnion.  I like the ticking-clock type of story (maybe I should go and see the Justin Timberlake movie In Time).  I’ve had dreams where I also had numbered minutes to live and when time ran out, I woke up.  But I’m digressing now.  I’m still waiting for more news on FF Versus XIII.  I know I am going to love the game-play on that one.

Is there ever going to be a Kingdom Hearts 3?  I don’t think there could be any more, to be honest.  If I have to play another KH game, I suppose I can try KH: Birth by Sleep sometime, even though it doesn’t feature my favorite KH character Sora.
Another thing I am excited about: trying out DmC: Devil May Cry.  I’ve decided that I will rent it and see if it is worth buying.  I haven’t seen any TV ads for it at all.  Maybe they are not shown in the U.S.A.  I’m not done with DMC 4; in fact I think I may need to start the third stage all over again because I am completely stuck on what to do next to make things move on along.

Ehhhh, I have been neglecting this blog for far too long.

CYBORG HAVEN UPDATE For August 24

The following item has been added to the list titled Video Games I Look Forward To:

  • NiGHTS into Dreams…!!!!!!!!!

I am so happy that I know I will be able to play NiGHTS into Dreams, even if it is going to be on my computer instead of a console.  I think it would be fun to play NiGHTS on my computer and use the mouse to point NiGHTS to the direction I want to go…at least that’s what I hope is going to happen.  I hope I don’t have to click the mouse for NiGHTS’s movement to count.   How do you play NiD with a video game controller, anyway?

If there is one PC video/computer game I’ll ever play, it’s going to be NiGHTS into Dreams.

My New Video: Vincent's Time To Shine

It's Vincent Valentine's birthday today: October 13th.  Cenzo (Vincent) is feeling egotistical today so he blocks Cloud from view on the poster.  He wants us to know that he is a Final Fantasy VII hero too.

Happy Birthday Vincent Valentine!

Cyborg Haven Update

The following item has been added to the list titled "Video Games I'm Looking Forward To":
  • Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword (Wii)
The following item has been added to "My Favorite Websites":

What ever could this mean??!!!!

My curiosity started with page 19 of the Nintendo Power August issue, and now I've seen the Ghirahim trailer for the game from ComicCon 2011 online.

I am a new Lord Ghirahim fan :3  And my curousity about this new interesting, beautiful villain is what is sparking my interest in the video game LoZ: The Skyward Sword.

More later!

Two Year Anniversary of Cyborg Haven!!!

It's been two years now since I've started Cyborg Haven: Blog of a Gamer Girl.  I couldn't maintain a healthy blog while I still  had school to finish.  Since September 3, 2009, I've started this blog and kept track of the video games I've played and loved and look forward to.

I really should update Cyborg Haven at least once a week, although I don't play video games on a console as often as I used to.  Lately, Mega Man X8 has been the console game (PS2) I play, while Dissidia: Final Fantasy or Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy were the PSP titles I'd return to playing, and I would just update the current levels of the Cosmos heroes or which story modes I began.

I will try to bring more variety into my posts for this blog, even if they are games I am not currently playing or have played in the past.

Wow, two years.  I've written and shared so much over the months.

NiGHTS IS GIVEN STAR POWER IN NINTENDO POWER!!!

I screamed at the top of my lungs the first time I saw NiGHTS in the Star Power section of the gaming magazine Nintendo Power.  Boy did I scare my family (after I finished screaming I immediately explained that I was not in pain and that I was just really happy and excited about the special attention NiGHTS received in this issue of the magazine.).  The section is on pages 16 and 17.

It is finally the time that NiGHTS gets some recognition, especially since Sonic the Hedgehog has his 20th anniversary this summer, and NiGHTS has his 15th anniversary on the same season.  Just days apart from each other!  Unfortunately NiGHTS is not on the cover of the magazine.  According to NiD.com and The Sonic Stadium, NiGHTS was on the cover of Nintendo Power close to the days that the video game NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams would be released that November 2007.

I don't know if I am going to continue to subscribe to Nintendo Power after my subscription expires this December, so I am so happy that at least Mega Man and NiGHTS were given Star Power pages this year.  Without it I wouldn't have known that Mega Man could have been called "Rainbow Battle Kid" (because he changes colors depending on the type of weapon he's using).

I love the timeline that shows NiGHTS's appearances along the past 15 years.  I guess it is a month late in doing this for him, but at least it is soon (within the month of July 5th).  The facts (and ideas) about him are on the right page and they are quite fascinating, namely about his hands, feet, and "peculiar purple headgear".

I've been aware for a long time that NiGHTS is genderless, but I find myself calling NiGHTS "he" and "him," as the magazine has.  If he is also called "she" and "her," I have no problem with that because in my opinion, NiGHTS is whatever anyone wants him to be.  It really helps that I am attracted to colors related to purple or lavender.  : 3

You can take a peek at the August 2011 issue of Nintendo Power on its website (the link is below). Or, if you are also a fan,  pick up a copy from the newsstands if you want to check out what NP has to say about our favorite purple flying hero NiGHTS.  Hopefully this issue of NP will introduce potential new fans to this character and his popularity can climb higher.

Finished Crisis Core!!!!!!

A-WHUUH?  OH, THAT IS SOOOO
NOT FAIR, CLOUD!!!

Yes, I FINALLY finished Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII, six minutes into Christmas morning.  So that was 12:06am.  Gosh there's something wrong with me :P just kidding!

I will write my reflections on the game play towards the ending of the game in the next post for Crisis Core.  It was quite the experience, I gotta tell you.  This has been one of the best video games I've ever played.  And I finished this game before even finishing the original Final Fantasy VII.  I still have one more disc to go on that one!

Now I have to remove Crisis Core from the " Video Games I've Yet to Finish" List because I beat the game.  It's just that I still would like to play more of the side missions.  I only got through 39% of those.   This way I can still play as Zack ^,^.

So again, more on this later.  I want to write the reflections on this game carefully.

Finally Uploaded Videos to my Channel

I finally got to uploading my Noseless Cloud plushie videos for my YouTube channel.  I can't do it on my computer because the computer in my bedroom is not compatible with the Flip Camcorder.  The software is too new for this old thing.

Anyway, these are only two of the videos, in which I make fun of my Noseless Cloud doll.  There is more, but I will submit them to my channel later.

Enjoy!  ^,^

EDIT:  The videos are a bit stop-and-go at the moment.  Sis says I'll need to compress them and re-upload.

Mega Man X4 progress…complete September 25

This post is a few days late.  Internet problems also extended the delay.

Sis finished Zero’s story in MMX 4 before I finished X’s story. She reeeeeeally wanted to defeat that Sigma.

Then five days later I finished X’s story in X4 and I dunno why, but I should’ve felt euphoria. Am I getting tired of playing the Mega Man X series? I don’t want to believe it. I mean, it was fun, and it is a rewarding feeling to finish playing a video game, but I’ve done it before three other times, it felt like.

But each game in the Mega Man X series has more story that is revealed, and new characters to introduce. That’s what keeps the series fresh. And Zero is still going to be playable in MMX 5. I’ll let Sis take care of Zero again, because I tried it out as Zero first, and it is frustrating. I am so used to the long-distance fighting that X is so good at. Since Sis is a huge Zero fan, I am more than happy to let her take over the Red Reploid again.

My favorite level in MMX 4: The Snow Base stage. I love the music and the icy colors in the environment. It is also a good stage to fill up X or Zero’s two Sub-Tanks.  There are five medium-sized energy pills near the beginning of the level and two extra-life items I can pick up, escape the stage, and then return to the same stage to pick them all up again.

I still have Mega Man X: Command Mission and Mega Man X8 to continue. In fact, I think the first time I tried MMX 8, I had an epic fail and lost all of Axl’s lives. So I will have to start over again for that game.

The adventures of Mega Man X continues...at some point.

1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF CYBORG HAVEN!!!!!!

September 3rd, 2009

Wow, I can't believe it's been a year already!

I want to take this opportunity to thank my readers for reading my blog so far.  I feel bad that I could not post videos of much of the playing that I've done. Most of this blog is written with words, but I try to add some visual aids when I can.  I want to be able to do more of that in the future.

I remember when I was just starting this blog.  The posts would be short, and then they got longer as I took notes or recorded my reactions to the video games I've played.  Since that first post, the blog grew so much, with the list increasing in length and the archives getting more content.  I was afraid that I would get tired of the blog and maintain it less frequently, but it hasn't happened.  I love to do them; playing video games and writing.  So why not combine my passion for both hobbies?

And since I am a huge NiGHTS fan, I have to include dreams that have to do with video games or video game characters, many of which in fact were about NiGHTS himself.  I think it adds a variety to the types of posts I write for Cyborg Haven.  If I play video games, I am bound to dream about extra adventures for the characters in those stories.

I love sharing my personal gaming experience with other bloggers and internet surfers.  I thought it was a nice idea to keep the background dark so that readers who are visiting the blog late at night don't have to squint from a bright computer screen.  I hope it is helping.

I am more than happy to continue posting on Cyborg Haven for another full year!  ^____^

My YouTube Channel Is Set Up!

Hey guys, my You Tube channel is ready.  I haven't uploaded videos yet; I have an idea what may be the first two of my own videos.  My Plush Cloud doesn't have a nose, and I plan to make fun of that.  I should also hope to upload videos as well, maybe a video reaction to a playing session of a video game.  I'll see.

Meanwhile, I have a few videos that I "favorited."  You can see what they are at this link.  I will also have my You Tube Channel available as a special link on the side bar of Cyborg Haven, under "My Other Personal Websites."  There will be many more favorites coming up.  I know I have a lot, I just didn't have a You Tube account earlier to show/list them.

Mega Man X3 is finished; MMX 4 coming soon...

It took a grueling 20-22 hours (total, not all at once, mind you) spent on the battles against Sigma, but my sister finally got through it and finished Mega Man X3 last night.  She REALLY REALLY REALLY wants to watch the anime scenes in X4.  We know that the anime in this next game is from the 1990s, but it's still so cool, it's Mega Man X anime!!!

She couldn't wait and she started the game and played through the intro stage.  I was afraid she was going to hog this game from me too   0.o  .   But we are sharing the Mega Man X Collection, so it's fair that I let her play some of the game.  In a few days I'll be playing the game myself.  What's so cool is, you can play the game as either X or Zero!  I'll start with X because he's the main character.  I'll bet Sis wants to play as Zero, so maybe I'll let her do that.  I don't know if both characters have to be played to get to the final stages or not.  Some games are like that, such as the Hero Story and the Dark Story from Sonic Adventure 2  in order to get to the final chapter.

I'm looking at Tuesday or Wednesday.  I'll write about the different feel Mega Man X4 has (it definitely has it.  The graphics are 32-bit instead of 16-bit, and X has newly-added vocalization).  So there will be new music, a new dialouge format, and the menu screen and one or two other new things.

And I know, I know, I still have to finish that darn Crisis Core.  I did say I was going to finish it by the end of July, didn't I.  Aw man.  I need to charge the battery of my PSP for that, though.  It might take one more session to finish it, or it might take two more.  Darn it, I don't wanna cry...
